This is Where I Am

by Jason Steady

/
1.
All wrapped up in octopus arms, All tangled up in tentacles I'm working on a winter gem. I'm talking backwards, upside up Icing down the vocal chords Busting out my summer tan Here comes the wizard, and there's nothing I can do.
2.
A cheekbone peek from under sleep, Sunlight drips from your lips A leafless branch, a fallen limb, The gentle breeze across your skin Hesitant touch, legs tied in knots, Broken quiet, constant thoughts Soft, beautiful, dark, and ideal. Oh my god, I think she's real.
3.
She's got something about her That I can't seem to explain A subtle way of keeping on my mind But then we'll go out, She'll twist and shout, And she'll drink so much My eyes bug out Hannah goes bananas every time. She'll look at me as if to say, "Hey Jason, we should run away, We can relax all day And loosen up our minds" But then we'll go down To the Lookout Lounge And she won't stop 'til She's underground Hannah goes bananas every time. Hannah goes BA! Hannah goes NA! Hannah goes NA!
4.
If I eat her tongue, how will she lick my face? How will she taste the food we'll eat together? If I eat her heart, how will she love me? How will her blood be pumped throughout her body? If I eat her ribs, what will hold her lungs in? Will all her oxygen just float away? She is my friend Nicole And I don't wanna know How she tastes I just wanna see her face, Smiling with her friends, And eating lots of food, And soaking in All the sunshine that she can If I eat her legs, how will she walk to my house To hang out and do our favorite things? If I eat her brains, how will she think about me Or have colorful dreams while she's asleep? And if I eat her tail, then what will she swing to keep the flies and things off her buns?
5.
I used to reminisce I used to think about the past A lot. And I was just wasted Wastin' my life away I used to dream I'd hike out to the woods And sit by this creek And just let the day Fade away from me We should walk to California How long do you think that'd take? Because we've got a bunch of legs And Omaha has changed And maybe we just need to get away I used to plot and scheme I used to reminisce, yeah I used to dream And think about the same exact things Every day

about

"This is Where I Am" has become this phrase I repeat in my head to sort of recenter and remind myself that life is just life and everything is moving whether you're into it or not. A mantra? Yeah sure, whatev.

Songs about adventure, girls, smoking pot, waking up, and vegetarianism, but not necessarily in that order.

Recorded in my basement, near two cemeteries, in Omaha, NE
